Hourly Salary Range:

$35.64 - $47.77

DESCRIPTION

The Forensic Services Supervisor will plan, organize, supervise and participate in skilled technical work as it relates to the Forensic Services Unit.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

·      Ensure the collection, preservation, and interpretation of evidence from major crime scenes, and that required photographs are obtained.

·      Assist detectives and technicians in conducting crime scene investigations and the ability to personally perform required field tasks when necessary.

·      Supervise and participate in the examination of latent fingerprints; review comparisons to confirm accuracy; complete fingerprint records.

·      Knowledge of and ability to operate, oversee, and maintain various technologies such as digital photography, digital darkroom, automated fingerprint identification systems, digital mug photo systems, etc.

·      Research, evaluate, and assist in the purchase of new technology, equipment, identification methods; ensure equipment is properly functioning.

·      Prepare and review written reports of identification tasks performed, examinations conducted, and documentation assembled.

·      Testify in court as an expert witness concerning latent print comparisons and crime scene investigations.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience:

Requires four (4) years of experience in forensic crime scene work for a law enforcement agency.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year).  The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.

 

Education:

Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a natural science, chemistry, forensic science, criminalists, or a degree related to the core functions of this position. Master’s degree is preferred.

The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).

Certification, Licenses, and/or Registrations:

·      Possession of a valid driver’s license.

·      Possession of, or required to obtain within six (6) months of hire, an ACJIS Terminal Operator Certificate.

·      Possession of, or required to obtain within two (2) years of hire, certification as a Qualified NIBIN User.

·      Possession of, or required to obtain within two (2) years of hire, a Crime Scene Certification through the IAI.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants considered for this job classification must pass the following: 

-       Criminal history background investigation

-       Post offer/pre-employment drug screen. Employees in safety-sensitive job classifications are prohibited from all marijuana usage whether medical or recreational

-       Post offer/pre-employment physical

-       Police background check

-       Polygraph examination
