About the Position:
This is a Job Share position that will work 20 hours per week and be ASRS eligible, but will not be eligible for benefits.
The Police Fingerprint Technician performs classification, searching, and comparison of fingerprints and maintains general, major case, and palm print fingerprint files.
This job classification has no supervisory responsibilities.

PLEASE NOTE: Years of experience are based on a work schedule of 2,080 hours per year for full-time positions and 1,040 hours per year for part-time positions, and while work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis, depending upon the job classification, education may not be substituted for work experience. Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
An Associates degree from an accredited educational institution.
Two years' experience as a Fingerprint Technician.
Experience working with: updating, reviewing, and maintaining criminal history information.
An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred:
Previous experience with fingerprint identification, classification and comparison using the Automated Fingerprint or Biometric Identification System (AFIS/ABIS).
Coursework in the fundamental concept of fingerprinting, such as identifying fingerprint pattern types, fingerprint comparisons and/or fingerprint classification.
Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements
AFIS/ABIS Terminal Operator certification is required within one (1) year of hire and must be maintained as a condition of employment
Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/services assignment.
Essential Functions
Reviews arrest packages to assure compliance with departmental, State, and Federal regulations pertaining to criminal history information.
Enters data from arrest packet into computer databases, adding to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) rap sheet
Generates the final disposition report within the time limits mandates by state requirements.
Reviews and responds to inquiries from police personnel and other agencies on matters pertaining to the general fingerprint files and all matters of criminal identification.
May conduct entries and searches of latent prints under the direction of a qualified latent print examiner
Compares fingerprints on pawn slips, casino cash tickets, or any other intentionally deposited fingerprint for the purpose of investigation.
Collects fingerprints for background applications, court proceedings or other purposes as deemed necessary.
Testifies in court as needed on arrest information, fingerprint card information, or other comparisons performed for the purpose of identification

Visually analyze and compare fingerprints in order to classify and file.
Most work is performed in a City office environment.
Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
Operate a variety of standard office equipment including: computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
